Dave Walker has been appointed global mining client sector leader by Golder Associates, the global engineering, construction and technical services company. He will oversee the continued development of Golder’s consulting work for mining clients worldwide in such disciplines as mine planning and ore evaluation, mine tailings and facilities, environmental services, water management, health, safety and toxicology, energy management and sustainability, and social management.
Based in Durban, South Africa, Walker will continue to operate out of that office, while travelling to other offices regularly. He most recently has been mining client sector leader for Golder in Africa for the last 10 years, where he has been responsible for the development of mining market services in Africa. This business development role is centred on developing mining sector strategies and tactics for Golder and includes a client, commodity and geographic focus. The company stated: “It is a role that requires the nurturing and development of client relationships and maximising the leverage of Golder technical communities and organisational networks in supporting clients.”
He was also responsible for the management and development of geological, mine planning and rock engineering projects and services to mining industry in Africa. His broad background in engineering geology, geotechnical engineering and hydrogeology, much of it in the mining industry over the last 25 years, covers a range of technical and project work. He has formed part of and led many multi-disciplinary teams, for the development of mining projects across many commodities and through the life cycle of projects. He has extensive experience in many developing countries in Africa, in addition to all of Golder’s mining centres across the world.
He holds degrees from the University of the Witwatersrand and the University of Pretoria in South Africa, and has a Business Management Diploma from the Damelin Business School in South Africa. Professional affiliations include membership of the South African Council of Natural Scientists, South African Geological Society and its groundwater division, plus the South African Institute for Engineering Geologists.
